My son has a 1997 with the A4WD system. It appears that there is some trouble somewhere within the drive train. He in now afraid to drive it anywhere. Is there any kind of diagnostic process we can try to isolate whether or not the problem lies in either of the differentials, the transfer case or tranny? He thinks it is on the transfer case and that some of the innards are eating themselves. Is this a common problem? The vehicle now has about 130K on it, engine runs fine. Any help you can throw my way is well and truly appreciated. List, I've got the same year, same all wheel drive. My question, assuming something is wrong, is what one can do to prevent the trouble from occuring in the first place. If I'm not wrong, the AWD came standard if you opted for a 5.0 l V-8, which I am happy to say, I have. Thanks in advance.
