Hi my name is Angel, I'm a new member and I just started having a problem with the idle on my 3.8 ltr. V6 yesterday, all of a sudden the idle changed while I was coasting down a FWY offramp.I checked all possible causes, nothing was loose or binding, therefore I think its an electronic malfunction/failure.What can it be? I have an idea that it can be a unit that is bolted to the air induction chamber, but not 100% sure. Can any help me out here?

Thanks for the response, I found the problen part, just as I suspected it was the idle air control valve.I had replaced it but the symptom persisted, turns out the aftermarket replacement has to be installed in the reverse position as the original part, and the parts salesman at autozone failed to advise me of that little but very important bit of info. which caused me great grief for two days.I had asked a freind that works at a Cerritos Ford parts dept. and he told me that only the black idle air control valve would work, and if autozone sold me the silver one,it would not work and I believed until Ilooked around for the black one at other auto parts stores cuz Ford wanted about $100.00 and the aftermarket was $55.00, anyway I found an auto parts the claimed they had the black one so I went to buy it but when they showed me the valve it was the same one I had (silver) but the parts man did tell me it had to be installed in the reverse position as the original. I went home waited for my wife to get home from work, as soon as she pulled into the driveway I popped the hood open, didn't wait for it to cool down, removed it and reversed it started the engine and WHOALA! PROBLEM FIXED.So I went back to autozone to return the idle pos. sensor $38.00 kwjs12
