You're probably better off swapping a turbo motor in, but the 1993 Escort GT does have the same engine 1.8L (code BP) as the turbo except that it higher compression. Turbo engines are usually lower initial compression because the turbo raises it. If you're installing a turbo on a n ormally aspirated engine that your boost limit is about 5-6 PSI without an intercooler maybe 7-8 with it. If you want to go in the 12-14 PSI you definitely need to go to lower compression pistons. If you want a turbo motor complete try http://www.corksport.com Eric B.

Whoa, that is incorrect information you are handing out there bud! The n/a BP engine is one of the strongest 4 cylinders built. It will handle approximately 7-8psi with no aftercooler.(depending on the condition of the motor before the turbo install. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is a neccessity, for anything above the 7-8psi. You can run 12-14psi safely with larger injectors, and an aftermarket air/fuel controller set-up. This can all be done with out touching the inside of the engine, provide you monitor your engines life signs. Meaning, once you put a turbo on, you need an Exhaust Gas Temperature sensor and gauge, an air/fuel ratio sensor and gauge or gauge to monitor the Oxygen sensor voltage.(some guys prefer this method) I noticed you have asked the same question on the EGT mailing list, several of the guys there have done these very things, and will be very helpful to you. Also Corksport is one of the few places to get the turbo manifold for the BP engine. Good Luck!!! Gary Williams Compass Motorsports
