I can't get the park brake cable to loosen off enough to removed from the brake assembly. I have to do the pads. Is there a trick? The rearmost nut didn't give much play.

Not sure about that. The wheel spins freely, never had it drag or lock up. I just can't seem to get that stupid cable to adjust loose. Is it possible for the adjuster nut threads to be stripped, or pretty unlikely?

Probe rear pads removal, try this it worked for me :

after removing the clip from the parking brake cable, loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut, then remove the access bolt, and using an Allen-key wrench turn the calliper manual adjustment gear, anti/counter clockwise to retract the calliper piston, until it bottoms inside the calliper, then with the heel of your one hand, you can push the brake lever forward, and with the other hand pull the brake cable back, you can then remove the cable from its lever and bracket

good luck as I say it worked for me.   Stuart J.

Ps replacing the calliper is even more fun .
