Just bought a 96 bronco 302 Automatic with 59K. When you are stopped and then accelerate you get a thump, if you don't give it a lot of gas it does not do it???? also when you come to a stop it also does the same thing,,but a real slow stop it won't ? Sounds like a loose bracket/ujoint or something. Got underneath it last night and everything seems tight. Any help would be great. Crap if your in denver i'll buy you a beer for helping... Thanks !!!!!!

Daniel

Sorry I can't help, but...I also have a 96 w a 302 and mine has done it ever since I bought it. It had 49K on it when I bought it in 99, and it has 90K now. I thought it might have been the brake calipers but even after a brake job it still does it. The only thing I can think of, unless someone out there has a real solution is backlash. I checked the under body and drivetrain too, everything was tight just like in your case.

Thanks for the info... Since it sounds like the same problem and you have driven it for 50K and no problems i guess i deal with it. It's a great frickin truck besides that. If I find any other info on cause i will post it. Thanks again
Daniel in Denver

I'd take a look at the radius arm bushings. Another thing that also usually goes un-lubed by most people is the double cardan joint on the driveshaft. You need to grease it with a needle adapter on a grease gun to keep it lubed as it is essentially a CV joint on the driveshaft in between the transfer case end with the two U-Joints on it.
-John

I have a '94 bronc with 110,000 miles and it does the same thing. I saw somewhere that it is the slip-yoke in the drive-train. I don't know a lot about vehicles but it is some where in the drive shaft. I was told a lot of heavy 4X4 vehicles develop this problem. I saw a pic of the part and it looks like it is at the front of the driveshaft. Shaped like a Y. Let me know if you get it fixed. That is the only complaint with my Bronc also. Later, Terry.

My experience with a thump that turned to a clunking.....was that a part(constant velosity? joint) on the end of the rear driveshaft that connected to the transfercase was cracked....so we got a rear driveshaft from a salvage yard and replaced it....cost bout 200. When we went to the salvage yard another guy was there with a driveshaft from an 84ish bronco also wanting a replacement... Common problem huh:::

I have a 95 with 96K, and a 4 inch lift, I have this clunk, and every time I look, I find that the bolts that hold the radius arm brackets to the frame have become loose.

I tighten them and My clunk seems to vanish for awhile.

you might check the bolts or bushings on your anti-sway bar, I have heard of these comming loose and causing a sound.

Adios
Johnny
