1996 Contour GL with the 4 cylinder engine, automatic trans, 32000 miles. It started with: when pushing on accelerator when starting, starved for gas, would die unless you let it idle to operating temp, and still had similar problems at normal temp. Tunex couldn't find problem, flushed injectors and replaced fuel filter. After a day problem returned. Took to repair shop, they got no codes on computer. They decarbonized injection system. That helped a little, BUT....check engine light comes on now and when stopped at traffic light with AC on, it idles high then low, back and forth and sometimes it will die. I've had my car in and out of the shop. They have gotten some on and off codes so they've replaced the spark plugs, oxygen sensor, EGR valve, idle air control valve. After they work on it, it seems better for about half a day, then back to the shop again. The shop always complains about the extensive reprogramming to reset computer (45-60 minutes). I'm $1100 poorer now and much more frustrated. I forgot...the ABS light is starting to come on and stay on for short periods of time ?? This was a great car until about a month ago....
