Just took my 96 Probe SE (50,000 miles) in for service and it turns out that one of the relays on the fan is dead and one of my shocks is blown. Anyone know what the warranty on those parts are supposed to be? I have the extended warranty and the dealer isn't exactly being helpful. He even told me that it would take him two weeks to get a new relay. Total estimated dealer cost: $150 Realy $900 4 shocks Is this normal? thanks in advance

Those prices are insanely high. And you'll most likely only get OEM parts. If you know which relay it is...relays only cost $5 to $15 at your local car parts store. As far as shock/struts go...a set of Tokico Illumina ride-adjustable struts (which is a significant upgrade from OEM struts) go for around $550 to $650. Of course you'll have to add in labor costs tho... -Lino Sacman, SCPOC '93 Rio-Red PSE, 5-spd

Absolutley not. I work for a parts company, and that price for your shocks is outrageous! Even with the labor involved it shouldn't be near that. I'm not sure about the relay though. Check with your local parts store (Carquest, Napa, etc..) about the costs. You could probably just buy the shocks and install them yourself.(its really not that difficult to do) Anyway I hope this helps in some way. Josh 93 Base All show, No go (mods)

Turns out the relay falls under the extended warranty, so they'll replace it for "free". I found the part number in case anyone ever needs it: (FC)RELAY 8B658 It can be found right under the radiator cowl, making it pretty much inaccessible to guys like me. I'm still upset that a big Ford Dealership would not carry such a simple part. They should have told me this when I bought the car from them 4 years ago! I did find a local speed shop that would install Tokiko shocks $390 Parts, $250 Labor(6hrs), sounds reasonable. Anyone know why Ford installed such cheap shocks? or was I just unlucky? Maybe I should just teach the wife how to drive better... Thanks for all of the previous suggestions. christophe

$900 for OEM replacement shocks is just plain crazy. If you are going to get OEM shocks go to Sears, or Midas, they will do it for much cheaper.
