2 things: '94 V8 1. My A/C is intermittently turning on and off. I can see the compressor start to run and then about 10 seconds later it turns off. Is it the comp. clutch or is it the compressor? ($) 2. My engine fan is not turning on at all, causing the car to overheat not twice. Is there a fuse for it? and where is it? Is there a sensor not telling the car it is getting HOT? I am at a loss. The engine light is not on either. Thanks for any and all help you all can give. Thanks

Is your electric fan coming on? And does the A/C cool when the car is moving? If the fan is not coming on this is why the compressor only stays on for a few moments. Sounds to me like you have a fan relay problem. I would check to see if you have power to the fan relay there should be 2 powers and 2 grounds. Don't foget about the fuse. racetbird88 Raul Razo

The fan never turns on. Even when it is overheating. The A/C does cool, so what you are saying does make sense. I do not see any fuse being blown either in the engine or under the hood. Where is the relay you are talking about? Also, could it be the air temp sensor gone bad? I'll try to find the relay today, and I'll see if that fixes the problem. Hot in AZ josh smith <

ok if the fan is not coming on then the hi side pressure is building up and could cause premature failure of the compressor. The compressor is cycling due to low freon(R-12 or R-134a). All cars 94 and later should use R-134a. I take it you have an electric fan, and if so then you have a relay. It will be in the engine compartment. Find it and try to open it up. do not destroy it. The cover should come off with a couple of small screwdrivers. Look at the contacts and see if they are burnt of if there is some build up of copper. I have seen this many times. If dirty, then get some contact cleaner of alcohol and clean them real good. Also there is a sensor some where in there that is bad. Take a look at the accumalator(dryer) and make sure the plug is on tight. If I am correct, then the sensor is on the intake manifold. I will have to look at the book to find out. This is a troubleshooters nightmare. If you check all that and nothing comes to good conclusion, then the fan might be bad. I can't go into detail about how to check that. If you have anymore ?'s then feel free to email me at: dakotanut@....

I am going to jump the gun and buy the fan at checker. It was only $54.99, and liftime warranty. I also bought a new thermostat. Even though it looked ok, Someone said it doesn't work quite right anymore after overheating. Thanks for th advice. I am going to hope that the only thing wrong with the A/C is the low freon. I can go ahead and do that myself if it is the r-134a. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks Hot in AZ bigdakotanut

Semi-Automatic Temperature Control Module - It's a safety recall, but, GOOD LUCK finding one... Is it possibly a computer software issue? Mine did same thing intermintently over summer, now that it's good and cold in the NE, I can only occasionally get heat or defroster to blow. There's warm air trickling out, but no blower. Occasionally, it will come on after hitting a pothole!

there is a fuse for the fan, it is in the power distribution box just behind the battery. if it isn't blown there is a control module for it and it also controls A/c components, expensive. the compressor for the A/C probably cuts off because the fan doesn't come on, and it shuts off as an overheat protection.
