Alright. This past Saturday, I replaced the plugs, plug wires, dist cap/rotor, and battery in my 95 Probe base -- 94k miles. Prior to this, there really was not any problems with anything -- idle was fine, acceleration dandy, etc. The only problems noticed was a slight decline in gas mileage, and an occasional CEL during heavy acceleration. Now. Acceleration is horrible -- from a complete stop, there is a large hesitation between when I hit the gas to when the car actually moves. Perhaps 1 second, sometimes 2 seconds -- during this time, it almost sounds like it is going to stall, but does not. It then takes its time to increase RPMs. If, while driving, I attempt to accelerate heavily, slamming down on the gas pedal, it hesitates again, and accelerates as though I am barely tapping the gas. At this point, it will getup to 4000rpm and just kind of hang for several seconds, until finally jumping up to 5000-5200rpm. Somewhat frightening. Outside of the parts replaced, the only other thing I did was add fuel system cleaner to the tank before I filled up. Right now, there is just under a 1/4 tank left. Could this be causing any problems? I am guessing the o2 sensors need to be replaced also, but would this cause this sudden difference? Any ideas? ph.

have u checked if the throttle position sensor is within its range.. if a CEL goes off then u know something is probably malfunctioning... ive noticed that at a certain point my car would be in a dead zone probably in 3rd gear... ATX though... so i step on the accelerator its moves then it kinda stops accelerating until i kinda press hard then it shifts... Eugene 94 PSE

Are your plugs wires hooked up correctly, in other words are the cylinders firing in the correct order? Also, check the spark plug gaps, just for peace of mind as well as remove the cap, and make sure all the contact points are inside and that the rotor is mounted properly. Enjoy, Bryan

Everything seems to be firing fine. I reseated all the connections to be sure, I also checked the gaps -- had them at .040 and opened them a bit to .043, but this made no difference. Also removed and reinstalled the cap/rotor to be sure that was connected fine. Finally finished the tank of gas that had the fuel system cleaner added -- a fresh tank of gas seemed to help a bit, but still having problems....wonder if the fuel injectors need to be thoroughly cleaned. I'm getting the timing belt replaced today, and so asked them to look at it while they had the car there. We shall see. ph.

I don't remember if you mentioned the fuel filter in the original post. It could be that. I remember hearing a while back that fuel system cleaners can leave those clogged. (Maybe they do too good of a job cleaning the gunk from the fuel tank side of the filter?) DJM On Wed, 30 Jun 1999 08:11:35 -0700

I agree. Clogged fuel filters affect performance more than you think. On most people's cars they are overdue for change, since they should be changed every year, or 12,000 miles. I dont know about fuel system cleaners causing fuel filters to clog up faster, but if there was varnish in there that was loosened up, I can see than happening. It sounds reasonable, so it might be a good idea to run a fuel system cleaner through, then change the filter after the tank of cleaner is almost empty. P.S. Guess what came in today.... My Autotap AT2! I just had to tell you guys about it. I used it on our F150, and as soon as my brother gets home, Ill hook it up to the PSE and see whats in there! :) Dedric Ramsey dedric@...
