I have a couple of questions. I need to know which clutch is going to hold up for the $$. I have a 93 Probe SE, I-4 2.0L. I was going to go with DF, but I heard that ACT is better and cheaper. So I need some opionions from those of you that have purchused either... Next, does the flywheel come with the clutch or is that separte? If so which one should I get and how much does it run. Thanks Joe

My personal opinion. Go with ACT if you are looking for an inexpensive clutch. I personally would not buy a Centerforce. The clamping load on their DF clutch depends on rotational speed for additional clamping load. It just sounds like a gimmick or marketing trick to me. I am not saying it doesn't work, but I personally would perfer a flat out higher clamping load over the DF's rpm dependant clamp load, even if a soft clutch pedal is sacrificed. Heck my Clutchmasters Stage III clutch feels nearly identical to the stock (with reference to the pedal feel), but graps big-time and is rated for 250-300 horses. Its still easily feathered, but now that the clutch is breaking in, it is biting harder and harder. I find myself breaking traction from time to time with second-gear shifts on dry concrete (not slick asphalt). Another point is, I have never seen this technology in any high profile racing. Also, I recall talking with a Centerforce rep once, and they said they did not have a DF clutch for the 2.0L, but they do offer higher performance clutches. Enjoy, Bryan Pendleton >

flywheels come seperate. you just need to have your flywheel turned by a shop before you install the clutch. centerforce clutches have generally proven better from what i have seen, but they MUST be broke in first.

Clutchmasters, makes them, but it will be a puck style disc, which will almost ensure a on-off switch for a clutch. Anticipate chatter if trying to feather, as the clutch will we designed for drag or serious racing only. Bryan P >

So, what are you building up? I was talking with Thomas Knight yesterday, and he mentioned a 2.0L owner with a turbo who modified the intake manifold by adding and additional injector to each runner for fuel on a turbo kit. He said the guy did all the work himself. That wouldn't be you would it? Bryan Pendleton www.probenet.com >

no, not me, but that is a good idea. i'm going to order a turbo kit if i can soon find the site i saw it on. i know i'll be over 400 but if everything is calculated right with porting, polishing, and other little extra's, it should be around 450

Show us the dyno charts when its done, or some time slips, thats what I am interested in. 8-) Good luck, and keep us up to date. Oh, and Thomas Knight is the only person/company I know of that build "kits" for the 2.0L, or the 2.5L for that matter. Bryan Pendleton >

i think you're right about thomas knight, i saw something today about the turbo kits. I also talked with some people at E.I.P. tuning a few months ago that said they would be able to do it so i'll figure it out. about the tranny though, u think since the engine will have the horsepower, i could use the 2.5 tranny gearing with the 2.0 engine? i know the 2.5 accelerates a lot smoother.

With the kind of power you are talking about, I would think you would want the taller gearing of the 2.0L, otherwise you will be going through tires quit often. 8-) Bryan >
