I purchased my ZX3 tricked out from the dealer (17" Chrome wheels, moonroof, tinted windows, leather seats, chrome exhaust), but am having problems with the tires rubbing the fender lip. The clearance from the tire to the bottom of the fender/quarter panel is about 3" sitting, but on bumps, around corners, and with passengers in the back the rubbing problem occurs. The offset of the wheels is such that the fender lip touches the tire about an inch in from the edge of the tire (it rubs the top of the tire, not the sides). Stiffer springs are generally lower about 1 to 1.5 inches which makes me cautious in purchasing them. Fender lip rolling has been suggested, but I would think this would only work if the tire was being rubbed on the side.

This is a problem I've lived with for 6 months and really hate the thought of dishing out $200 each tire for premature failure due to rubbing. I'm sure the dealer's fix would be to put the cheesy factory wheels/tires on the car which I want to avoid like the plague.

Any suggestions?

I've seen fender rolling work this problem on 91-96 escorts... I had a similar problem after a wreck in my first car (81 Accord)... and I just lived with it. I only had to replace the tire one time. It's pretty much up 2 U. Fendor rolling is an option but you must be REALLY careful when doing it yourself. unfortunately, having a body shop do it can be REALLY expensive, but it would get done correctly. I would tell you a few good ways to roll out your fenders, but there are so many import tuner pages that go through the process, that it'd be a waste of my breath. The easiest one involved using a broomstick and rolling the car back and forth carefully... something I would never do. I'd opt for a body shop job.
