I was wondering if the K&N air filters actually make a difference. We've all heard they increase the Hp by 5-15 horses, but can you tell, and is it true. Also, will the gas mileage get better, worse or no different?

And can anybody tell me where I can get a cowl hood or a non-functioning ram air hood for a 1999 3.0L Supercab?

Thanks
Scott

duh!! Look in the air box,it should come out of the front of the box,Hard to say what box you have.My brothers 97 had a intake muffler on his 2.3 motor. My 2000 has a square box,the opening was
barely 1 1/2 hit the silencer with a hammer. Should come right out.Now have a 3x2 hole to flow thru. The more air in,the more you have open the exhaust side. The gains are steady small steps,
maybe 3 to 5 HP a pop.The engines are almost maxed out, when in comes to huge power gains.I wanted easy revs, more sound from both ends.
I have all the modes well sorted, just have lack of funds.Own three trucks, main goals more MPG and more sound from these trucks.Gas costs $1.65 per gal. for the cheep stuff. Hope this sheds some light on this vast subject. Angelo

But does the silencer actually do what it says, and silence all noise? If so, what kind of increase of noise do you get, if any, once the silencer is removed?

my truck didn't nave a box style filter it had a cone with the forward part bolted to the fender.I
cut away most of the front part left the mounting studs and the ring to clamp the filter in place
so that is why i didn't know about the silencer
smartass!
