A free mod is removing the silencer. Actually the silencer is a restriction to air flow. After I removed mine, I did not notice any increase in loudness/noise. Here's a quick link for instructions to remove the air silencer:
http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12how-to/airbox/airbox.htm
<b\ r>The MN12 web site is also a great source for other info. I also recommend TCCoA.com

This mod is easy..need only basic hand tools. I recommend not removing the air box from the inside of the engine compartment, but rather remove the lock nuts from the silencer side [located on the inside of the wheelwell]. With the silencer assembly removed, you'll notice three parts: an elbow tube, a "center section" (resonator/silencer) and the piece that attached to the wheelwell. Remove the center section by prying it off. Now, re-attach the elbow tube to the other piece by using a short piece of hose (I got some flex PVC from the plumbing store [NOT DRYER EXHAUST HOSE], use whatever you want). I pointed my intake toward the bumper cutout that is used to house the fog lamps (stock on SCs). I don't know whether this makes a difference, but in theory, now when the car is moving the enigine doesn't have to rely only on vacuum to bring in air...the intake tube has a faux "ram air" to help the flow.

By removing the silencer in this way you get to keep the stock air filter box. A good free-flowing filter is K&N panel filter (about $40...never need to change it). Of course, you could go the "cone filter" way (about $120). I think it's unnecessary becuase there is no way we can get this V8 to produce 500hp. But if you do go "cone", then please take the time to mount it in the wheelwell and not in the engine compartment. If you mount it in the engine compartment, then you're breathing in HOT enigine air. Hot air is less dense than cool air...so any performance gain of free-flow is offset by the less amount of air you are taking in from the hot air space.

One last thing to consider...Basically
the keys to better performance are: (1) get the air in; (2) burn the gas; (3) get the exhaust out.

So far, I've described a better way to get air in (silencer removed/ K&N). Now you need to burn it efficiently (performance module, easy to install), and relieve the backpressure on the ass-end (free-flow exhaust).

Geez, this was along reply...I hope that I didn't ramble on so as to make you go to sleep!

Cool,

I built a ram air type system like you spoke of, but I did it by turn'n the hole 3 piece air intake arm over and add'n a scoop to the end of that, aimed at the fog lamp cut out. But I guess I need to go back now and pull the asemmble apart and take out the actl air silencer.

thanks alot
