I have a 94 bird with the 4.6. The motor is currently getting rebuild with some minor port and polishing being done. I have the bbk 70 mm throttle body, the k&n air intake, the 2 1/4 duals to magnaflows.

Any suggestions on which chip manufacturer to go with, superchips, hypertech, jet? Do you know if any of these chips eliminates the 170 km top end limiter????!!!

Do you think that I need to upgrade my mass air? Also, with adjustible fuel pressure regulators, any suggestions??

Thanks

I also have a 94 w/4.6. w/K&N Filtercharger. The best you'll be able to get as far as I know is about 128...(with that computer, which is also used on the 95s) that's the speed at which Ford has some hard coding that will make the car shift out of OD to 3rd. I understand 96 and later models do not have this stupid feature. You can get Superchips or Hypertech, they both can't get you above 128. As far as other manufactures, there is Jet, but I heard some negative things about them. I bought a Superchip because I didn't want to put a thermostat in that lowered the engine temperature (Hypertech), and because is was over 100 bucks cheaper. The chip that I have is governed to 125 and I took it out for a run, and it down shifted at I guess 128 (the needle was buried beyond where 125 would be), but it got up to 5 grand rpm and I immediately popped it into nuetral, and coasted. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the car as far as I can tell, I shifted into neutral as soon as tranny downshifted. I'm getting Superchips to lower the speed to about 123. Hey, where do you get true dual exhaust, know anything about high flow catalytic converters? thanks, hnicksta

Inject-Tech. This chip is by far the best you can get for a Thunderbird. If I'm not mistaken, the guy that owns Inject-Tech was a transmission engineer for Ford prior to starting Inject-Tech. I'm not sure how to get in touch with them, but go to www.tccoa.com, Thunderbird and Cougar Club of America, and just ask on one of the message boards. There are many, many people there who have ALOT of information. They can tell you how to contact Inject-Tech and answer just about any other questions you might have.

Good luck with your 'Bird!

thanks for the info about the chips. As for the duals I work for a muffler shop. its pretty simple, you just need to find someone who is good with pipe bending, or someone who can do mandrel bent for you (mandrel gets kinda pricey, lots of bends). what you do, is eliminate the converter and the resonator and build the system from there.

To do it properly you eliminate the precats and use high flow converters. These will do the same job as OEM converters just much less restriction. From what I have seen though, they do not last as long. However if your car is running smootly, then you should have no worries about burning them out.

If you can't find someone to do the duals, you could also go with a magnaflow cat back system. not as nice as true duals but this still has good flow to them. I believe Flowmaster might even offer a cat back system.

good luck with your ride.
