If your replacing the head unit and want to use the factory wiring for the speakers when you get your wiring harness for the radio you'll need to get a 2nd harness for the amp. It simple goes from the wires into the amp to the wires coming out of it so the amp is by-passed. Hope this Helps, Fred

Is in the dash, but you do not need to touch it! Get the wires for an aftermarket stereo and just add on an xtra amp if you need it> Alex

Ok so what year of Probe is the amp in the dash???? Haven't seen that one yet. Every 2nd Gen. Probe I've intalled in had the factory amp behind the right, rear passanger side-wall panel. Are you confusing the computer for an amp???? Hope not. Would hate to see it if you thought that was the amp and you took it out... LOL Fred

My 1996 Probe came with a amplified reciever, so the amp was built into the head unit. I believe it depends on what audio system you got. If my recallection serves me correct you have the base system which is simply an amplified head unit and four speakers, then you have a premium package which has the amplifier in the rear, with an EQ and sub, and perhaps there are "system options" inbetween. Enjoy, Bryan >

The sub was an option. If you got the "decked" out stereo system. Thanks, Brian
