Hello, I purchased a 1994 Ford Econoline E150 Conversion Van with 67,000 miles on it. The chairs in the "conversion van" look more like the upholstered chairs you would find in an upscale furniture store. They are soft and cushy, and have a velour like soft seat cover. The problem is that the seats are emitting a strong odor. Its the same type of odor you would smell if you were in a furniture store and sat on a brand new couch. Its not a bad odor. Its not a mildew odor. Its just a cushion odor. But its strong enough to make it difficult to breath inside the van. I've tried leaving the doors open all day (on a windy day) and it still has the strong odor. Since this van is a 1994, and was probably converted to a conversion van when it was brand new, I have to believe that this smell has existed for 8 years and will continue forever. I have a 2 year old son, a 1 year old daughter, and a new baby which will be born in January. I am realizing that I may have made a mistake purchasing this Conversion van because of the smell of these chairs and the unknown effect it will have on my children who may be breathing this smell for years to come. Have you ever had this problem or been in a conversion van which had nice apolostry on the chairs which had a strong "furniture cushion" smell? Thanks in advance for your advise. - Bill

Hi Bill Something that might work is a OZONE generator if you can fine one in your aera. Some motels use them to remove the smoke smell from rooms and I have heard that some automobile dealerships use them to take the smoke oder out of automobiles. I have seen them in some homes and one auto dealership that I can think of. They run off of regular house curent and are small enough to carry to your van and plug it in and let it run for several hours in the van and see if that will take the odor out. It could be comeing from the foam padding in the seats and never come out without reupholstering the whole van, Here is another suggestion go to a janitorial supply house and get a fabric deoderant aerosol spray that won't hurt fabric and use that I think it will have to be used time and again as it probably won't last long. Wish I could give you a definate answer to your problem but hope some of my ideas work Shep "Sternbach,
