I looked at the website and it looked like (from the massive battery and the ~4AWG wire coming off of the terminal) you have a system in your car (or something that has huge electrical demands). If I am correct in assuming this, did you get a new alternator or an isolator or something on those lines to save your car? The reason I ask is I just recently installed ~ 1500W peak (a Rockford 800a2 and a Rockforg 250a2) into my car (with gains down for now) and don't feel like blowing up my electrical system. Any help from you (or anyone) on the avaiable options for a probe to beef its electrical supply would be helpful. I currently have a 1F cap that I'm going to hook up and money isn't THAT much of a concern (well it is.... but hopefully it won't cost more than $2000). Thanks! -Jaime Torres E-MAIL: jatorres@... I don't mean to sound childish by saying mine's bigger than yours... but its is by a factor of 2. I plan on running two RF Punch Power DVC 12's (1000 W RMS, 2000 W Peak) off of the 800a2 and Boston Pro 5.5's and Boston Pro 6.5LF's off of the 250a2. Needless two say, in order to keep up with the speakers the amps are going to be running 100% when its turned up, which is going to draw ~ 100 Amps. I'm not sure what the factory alternator is rated at... but a best-case scenario would be 70 Amps. That puts 30 Amps duty on the battery just from the system plus whatever the car requires (guestimate at ~ 25 Amps). So I'm thinking about an isolator and an Optimus yellow top to help it out, but I'm curious about other peoples experiences with BIG systems (hopefully bigger than mine so I'll feel safe :)). Thanks for your input though! -Jaime Torres E-MAIL: jatorres@... AIM: VTJaimeT OR VTKillerHurtz http://jatorres.campus.vt.edu/

wow, must be nice to have some money :) anyways.. i think that there are some places that sell separate alternaters you can hook up to your amps and thats all they run, you may want to check in to that, i know some truck with a 13,000 watt system i read about in a mag had a few of those in the system.

I think installing a seperate alternator would be a HUGE mod... and I don't see much room around the factory alternator for an expansion, but I'm trying to look into it (not many "hook-up" places around tiny little Blacksburg, Virginia). Damn.... 13,000 watts.... now that's just crazy. I think that's ~ how much my house uses up in a month... -Jaime Torres E-MAIL: jatorres@... yeah, they had to wear ear protection when driving the thing, but the alternators are located in the back of it near the system, i think that they hay have had extra batteries back there too, but hey, i guess that a truck has a little more space in the back than a probe :) scott

One thing that I know is possible is beefing up the alternator. I work for a local auto parts store and I know there's a starter/alternator shop in town who will beef up an alternator from 105 amps to 180 amps for $100. Now, the thing is, that's your average, everyday GM CS alternator. It's off of a '93 Blazer 4.3. My boss at work needed a bigger alternator and talked to the owner of the shop who says the re-do the internals of the alternator. Basically, he said they re-wind it with four times the wire and some more stuff. Now this shop offers a FIVE YEAR warranty with the rebuild. That's quite nice if you ask me. Now that's the price of an alternator plus $100. So basically, it's $200 for that truck. But I would still recommend a cap. Ben '94 PSE

Do they take the factory alternator and do it, or do they take a "high performance" alternator and do it? Also, is that a local shop, or is it a chain? I would be VERY interested in doing that since that's cheaper than the $550 that a new alternator will cost (180A idle, 220A driving). -Jaime Torres E-MAIL: jatorres@... Yep, that's your stock alternator, and unfortunately it's a local shop. I would check around though if I was you...it's worth a little time
