What kind of costs were involved in the front and rear swaps separately? I know on the front you can purchase new rotors that are drilled with the 5-lug Ford pattern. The whole Pinto/Mustang-II steering and suspension components are very popular with kit-cars and hot-rod conversions because of their simplicity and lighter weight. At last count these 5-lug rotors could be had for about $100/pair. Pretty simple and economical swap, especially without having to crack open the brake lines!
As far as the rear, I know a 8" 5-lug rear end off of a '65-'66 Mustang will bolt right in with all original Mustang-II brackets, brake lines, and emergency brake cables. This housing has the smaller axle-shaft tubes for the smaller U-bolts. Even the mid-70's Maverick 8" rear-end will bolt up if you use its brackets due to the larger axle-shaft tubes. The larger brakes drums definitely help in the stopping department! For rear disc brakes, the Lincoln Versailles rear end can be fitted also.

I wish I could remember! The important part to keep in the back of your mind is that these components stop your car...and to focus on the emergency stops. Your risking the investment in you car, injury or possibly your life if you short cut, use cheap parts or don't get it set up right.

I'd buy new front rotors. They won't be rusted, new bearing races, rotors won't be warped and won't need to be turned.

The brakets to mount the calipers weren't cheap. But then again you don't want cheap ones either...a fractured mount would be dangerous.

I've rebuilt numerious calipers and purchased them rebuilt. The rears I'd definately recommend rebuilt units. You don't want them to leak and the emergency brake screw actuator was real tricky to get reinstalled right. Leaks here ruin the brake pads...I know! These ran, guessing, around $150 rebuilt each?

My fronts were new Wilwood, somewhere around $200 for the pair.

I had to research brake hoses too!

I believe, from reading magazine conversions, that the kits are probably the best value. All the parts are there, the parts are new, and they all work together. My biggest worry during this conversion was wondering if it would all work. Overall I probably have $1000 in the conversion and LOTS of hours and frustration!

Let me know if you need more. My email is Cobra_2_76@...

First, You don't want to use redrilled II rotors. Youll stick bigger tires on the car but not improve your brake power. Also, it looks goofy to have big rims with tiny brakes.

Everything you need to convert the front to a granada 11" brake can be purchased in kit form for ~ $350. Brake line to rotor bearing cap. I went this route because I didn't want to have an untested setup. I went with the GM calaper because of the larger piston size.

Second, If you do go with any 11" conversion on the front you MUST install bigger brakes in the rear. If not you will have an out of balance condition.

The quickest easiest way to get 5 lug and better brakes is to install a different rear. The goofey thing with II 8" rears is the axle flange where the brake plate bolts is it's own creature.
