Hello, all. I am currently driving a 1996 Contour GL 5-speed with the Zetec 4-cylinder engine. This car is on loan from a local dealer who wants me to buy it. I have to let him know by the end of the week if I want it. My question is this: should I buy this car? I realize that since this is the Ford Contour club, you will probably all say yes! Truthfully, I really do like the car so far. With the 5-speed, the performance is good, and I like the way it rides and handles. I wonder, though if it will last (I maintain my cars very well). Could you give me any un-biased advice on this car? Specifically, I would like to know any problem areas, things to check when I look over the car, and repair costs? Already, I noticed moisture in the spare tire well, a clunking noise in the rear strut area (when going over bumps), and the lighted door handles on the driver's side do not work. Are these common problems with the contour? The guy wants $6995 for this car (it has 62,000 miles). Does this sound like a decent deal? He is offering $1500 for my trade (a 1989 Taurus with 135,000 miles) so this seems reasonable to me. Any advice you could offer would be appreciated.<br><br>Thank you.
