The exhaust camshaft is the same as ours. That's why :) I would imagine that trying to get the timing right with 2 modified cams would be a task and a half. but since they are the same it makes no difference. Hth Scott Pergande 93SE

J, To be honest, I can't tell you why nobody uses the exhaust cam... I've wondered that myself... I do know that to get the most out of the J-Spec intake cam, you should really get the J-Spec intake system as well... It has some time of variable resonance built into it... Couple of vacuum actuators that you would need to control based upon the RPM's... My guess is that if you have the VRIS intake system, the intake cam, and the exhaust cam, everything would play happily with each other... If the exhaust cam is anything like the intake cam, it lengthens the valve cycles a little... The lobes on the intake cam create a longer duration... I suspect that if you would use the exhaust cam also, you'd have the same effect... And without the proper air flow from the VRIS intake, you might end up with a deficit of fresh intake air... Just my guess... I haven't seen the exhaust cam to check for the differences... For all I know, the exhaust cams may be identical... I had the J-Spec cam installed in my Probe for a while... The idle was rather lopey... It did produce somewhat more power, though... If you can live with the lopey idle, then it's a decent swap... I for one would rather have a smooth idle than a few extra HP... But I'm not the type of person who dyno's my car or races... My Baby has plenty of power as is for what I need... I was working on a microcontroller system that would be able to control the VRIS J-Spec intake... I never finished it because of several reasons: 1) There was only limited interest in what I was doing 2) Not many people have the J-Spec intake, or are willing to fork out close to $1,000 for it... 3) I had no way to test the design since I don't have the intake... I would just like to correct a couple statements made in the message. One, the J-spec exhaust cam is exactly the same in the KLZE versus the FSZE. Two, the J-spec is not $1000 (an entire FSZE (J-spec) engine runs about $1700 from corksport if I recall) but more like $125 (see http://www.probetalk.com For Sale/Wanted section). MULTI 97GL

He was saying the jspec intake manifold was $1000 I believe but its only like 500 at corksport. Exhaust cams are the same like I said right after his original post of the question. And the price on the cam is like $160 new. Not sure on used. Scott

Also, the KL-ZE is the 2.5LV6 J-spec engine and the FS-ZE is the 2.0L I4 J-spec. And it's impossible that they would have the same cams. One has 2 cams controlling 4 cylinders and 16 valves , the other has 4 cams controlling 6 and 24 valves
