I am planning on rebuilding my carb on my 84 XLT, 351W. Has anyone done this before and what should I expect? What else should I do that is related to the carburator rebuild. Thanks in advance, Thomas.

BTW, this is my carb # E4TE-9510-ARA.

Have an 83, 351 W, came with a VV carb. Had two cost estimates to rebuild, $700 & $825 with no guarantee! Put a Holley 2BBL replacement on it. About $300, works fine! Maybe yours is different, good luck

Damn $700 - $825 to rebuild a carb what kind of crook is that. You made the right choice changing to the holley. Heck For $700 you could put a cam kit new intake and a 4 barrel carb on it and have money left over for a tank of gas.

You can get a rebuild kit for 20 or 30 $$ and try it your self. If that doesnt work buy a new one. I think Holley makes a 2 barrel for race cars that are limited in the carb size that is designed to work under extreme race conditions. I have seen the run on motors putting out over 300hp and did great. The prices are around $300 (I think)

Tony

A VV carb is a Variable Venturi, not the easy DIY rebuild that will always work. When it's on, it runs awesome, when it's not all functioning it sucks canal water. There are not many people that will even work on a VV let alone get any guarantee on it.... so my Holley choice was best for my engine and wallet. We have done rebuilds on engines and carbs before, so experience had us searching for the equitable alternative.
