I had the same problem with a Weapon R filter. It seems the engine was
recieving to much air and/or the MAF was not reading it fast enough. My
engine stalled slightly between 3,000 and 3,500 put every other rpm range it
ran better. Or the mixture may be slightly off due to the rush of air and
the o2 sensor(s) are picking up the mixture error. YOu might need to find a
high performance/high flow MAF sensor to fix the problem. This might have
been the case on mine and yours could be different. But if you engine is
running slightly different between 3,000 and 3,500 rpms, this is probably
what is happening.
