Here is a really simple cold air intake that you can do. Go to ACE hardware and pick up a 3" diameter piece of vacuum tubing and put it where the stock intake used to be. I did this and I noticed a significant boost in power.

What do you drive? i know the GT can really benefit from an air ram, but i drive a base 4 cyl, i wonder if it can really increase the performance, also, what kind of air filter do you have? the stock filters kill the air flow and get dirty really quick, finally, how did you hold the air ram in place? and where does the tube opening come out?

Do you mean you removed the tube that connects to the air filter box and goes to the front bumper and replace it with a vacuum tubing going down to the bottom of the car? There's a little more to making a true ram intake than this, or whatever your set up is--but that isn't the point. For the 4 banger you're not going to see too much gain with an intake unless you have more done to the engine, even then you're not gonna see too much--but that doesn't mean it does have it's advantages. I have all bolt-on's and the J-spec camshaft (basically a bolt on) and had the stock intake on. When i replaced it with a custom intake i noticed from 5K on it reved a little better, i'm assuming it's because the custom intake isn't as restrictive as stock intake. 3" actually might not be the best idea for the diameter. A lot of the AEM intakes are 2.25 or 2.5 and they yeild a pretty good gain for those cars. The 3" may cause some turbulance, therefor creating gaps in the air flow to the engine, thus loosing some power--possibly causing "gaps" in the powercurve. Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

You take it to the bottom of the frame in the engine compartnment and you'll notice a panel that can be flipped up. Flip it up and run the vacuum hose down it and it will be outside of the car.
