have a '94 with a 4.6. modified the air intake to take a suction from the driving light port, kind of like a ram air, works great in the dry season, but with the rain coming down, scared it will become a snorkel when i hit puddles. anyone suggest a good cold air intake system for performance and fuel economy. also looking at increasing my maf, what size is the original and what benefits should i receive. p.s. can anyone recommend a good shop in the san diego area?

Turn it around backwards in the rainy seasons. ;) Unless you submerge it in water what gets in will be negligable (I've been running like this for 3 years now). You could always just take off all but that first part of the air silencer and stick a cone filter directly on that if you want. CAI's won't increase performance, mpg might benefit if the current system is severely choked. Your MAF is 65mm. You can get an 80mm Lightning MAF, an 85mm Mustang MAF, or a 90mm Lightning MAF. On an otherwise stock car it's not going to do all that much. If you get a new MAF make sure to get a chip or a tune that has that transfer function built in. Changing to a C&L MAF or something that uses the same transfer function won't show you any gains on a mostly stock vehicle. I've got the 80mm LMAF and a Superchips Custom Tuning (SCT, not to be confused with the ordinary "Superchips") clone chip with the transfer function built in.
