Hi members, I just purchased a bronco 1988 full size. I am a little disapointed at the fact that I overlooked a very important detail to me and that is that I wanted a truck 4x4. Now I can not back up, so I have to complete the transaction. The truck is automatic and I was wondering what does it take to make it a 4x4? I went by the looks of the truck and the price. Does it take a lot of work? Would i be better off if I purchase another truck?

All Bronco's are 4x4. The floor shifter remained standard through to the last year of manufacture, but the push button system came as an option in the '80s - I would have to look up what year. The manual hubs were optional with the floor shifter, and automatic locking hubs were standard with both transfercase shifters. With the manual hubs and the 3.50 or 3.55 ratios you could get the front limited slip unit. The other thing to note is that the HD front end was only on manual hub units. (This was for heavy duty four-wheelers and plow use basicly.) The 4.10s were not available with the 351, but optional until either '93 or '94.
