I am trying to figure out if the Heads from a 4.6 Mustang will work on my '96 4.6 T-bird, has anyone tried this? If so what do I need to be aware of?

96-98 heads will be the same, 99 heads will bolt on with some work. Check out www.tccoa.com and use the search feature for "PI Headswap" then if you have any questions ask on there, plenty have done it. I know you will need a new intake but since I have a 94 I haven't gotten a total list of parts.

Thanks for the reply. DO you know how much difference there is between the Mustang heads and the PI heads, as far as likely performance increase? "Brian G. Smith"

96-98 will be no improvement as they are the same as what you have now. Changing to the PI (Performance Improved) cams alone will get you around 15rwhp not sure about gains with the heads but it would be a bit more. It will raise your compression ratio and if you are wanting to supercharge it is best to stick with stock hads and have them ported. Fox Lake ( http://www.fox-lake.com/ ) reccomends porting stock heads rather than porting PIs. You can shoot them some questions on why.
