any help is appreciated, my 95 is doin a wierd charging/discharging thing. i put a new alternator in in december, but still had "jumping" in my gauge needle and then about two weeks ago it started staying down after jumping around telling me it was discharging my battery, but only when first started. after about fifteen minutes, or with a really good rev of the motor, it would bounce back up to charging with only the occasional drop of the needle. two days ago it went all the way down to the red area of discharge and never came back. i put a new battery in it yesterday and, as i thought, it was still discharging, but this morning it started the whole jumping process again and was charging after a thirty minute drive......kinda long i know, but does anyone know what else i can check for this very erattic behavior? i am having the alternator checked again tonight......

Something could be pulling on the electrical system. For instance you could have a short somewhere. Mine was in the Electric fan, on the v8 the fan power has a plug behind the passenger headlight. Just unplug it and drive the car around a bit and see if the gauge goes back to normal (it will still bounce a little with the turn signal etc, standard for these gauges) If it does your fan is on the way out like mine was. I just pulled the fan and ordered a perma-cool for $130, and put in a 180 degree thermostat. The aftermarket fan is a little more than getting one from the junk yard, but it has a higher cfm, and lower amp draw. Who knows may be something else, you can have a short anywhere, plugs, wires, ignition, etc. Electrical is a pain to troubleshoot.
