Hi folks, I was involved in an accident and now I have the issue of
replacing my driver's side door. Thankfully no one was injured.
I located and purchased a complete door with window and all trim,
panels, mirror etc from a wrecker yard. It was about 100 miles from
home and it was raining so I decided to put the door on at the wrecker
yard.
The smashed door opened and closed using the inside handle and the
window was shattered in the wreck so I was looking forward to a dry
ride home. I was single handed at the yard but managed to get the
bolts in the door. I only inserted the bolts part way so that I could
do adjustments and pushed the door to make sure it would latch. It
seemed to be fine so I attempted to open the door to finish tightening
but found that the door can not open as the fender blocks the door
from opening more than a few inches.
Now I can't get to the bolts to loosen or tighten them. I'm wondering
about the possibilities and have considered going to a body shop for
advice or maybe removing the fender and adjusting its position.
After the wreck, I had to fashion a wedge out of duct tape and tape it
over the door switch so that the door chime and dome light would be
deactivated with the door shut. After the door was replaced, I
thought the problem would be resolved but it is not. This leads me to
believe the cab shape/door opening is warped which causes great
concern. I'm wondering if my poor ranger has met its end.
Would appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks and hope to hear from
you soon. Jerry
