It almost feels like the 'Twilight Zone' .... 2 concerns for 2 different Rangers in same house on same day


'88 Ranger - Idles way too low 75o-800 rpm .... periodically drops down ... feels like it's going to stall

Q? My mechanic tells me the truck can't be timed [computer]

My buddy tells me that it can be adjusted with timing belt tester ... who's right????

09 Ranger - Odometer works fine in town ... but ... drive on highway for abit ... problems with speedomoter

[showed 0 as I drove off highway back home]b ...What causes & what's needs to b done to rectify???

PS- '88 Ranger cigarette lighter pops out when ready ... something common???

There are a lot of electrical things that can be wrong with the idle, but often the vacuum hoses or vacuum climate control solenoids are cracked or split, causing the MAP sensor to send the computer the wrong information. Check these cheap to replace parts before you start an electrical witch hunt. Vacuum gages are about $12. On an 88, all the hoses, plastic tees, and climate control solenoids should be replaced by now. Historic rubber is dirt.
