Find some drive pulleys for the alt, PS and AirCon that are larger than
stock. And/Or a pully on the crankshaft that is smaller. This will spin the
alt and PS pump less, and reduce the drag.
I have put a chain on the motor mount to limit the travel of the motor. The
will move the horsepower from moving the motor, back towards the rear
wheels. I have not tried this on a T-Bird, so I not sure what you will need
to do. Think about drilling a hole, and install a bolt. Allows compression,
but limits expansion of the mounts.
Over-Inflate the front tires about 5 - 10 over what they should be. Less
drag. Not the rear wheels, as it may give less traction.
Change the oil before the race. New oil is slicker.
Get a new chip.( I would have said bump the timing up, but you can do that
anymore, I think)
Soak the rear wheels with clorox, and spin them down to get them hot at the
starting line.
Throw out the spare tire, and anything else. Every pound counts. Remove the
rear seat, passenger seat, radio, insulation, carpet ect... Use good
judgement here, as it is easy to get carried away. It just depends on how
much money you have on the race.
Tune the engine
Add spacers between the springs. This will keep the car from squatting in
the rear, which is a waste of HP. Don't rase the rear end, just keep it from
squatting.
Remove the fan. Don't let it idle for long periods of time or you will over
heat. Without a fan, you must be moving to keep the engine cool.
Overheating the motor will make the rings stick, and other bad things. Put
the fan back when finish. Or install an electric fan.
Disconnect the alternator just before the race. Less drag.
Some of the item maybe conserversal. Use good judgement. Don't race on the
Street !
Bruce, who wish he was back into drag racing.
