I don't know much about the new 4cyls but there isn't a hole lot out the as far as performance goes and what there is tends to be pricey. Other than a turbo what you see is what you get, since the 2.3 came in a turbo version putting one on your engine shouldn't be hard at all. If you want to super charge it you could do that to but it would be a bit more difficult. There is always nitrous but the reaks havoc on a engine if used regularly. Good luck. Kris, >

If you want performance parts for the 2.3L contact a company called "Racer Walsh" They have everything from 4 barrel carb adapters to stroker kits.

You can't run a turbo on a N/A engine, it will not handle it. The turbo motor has a stronger block along with stronger internals, and roller cam head.

The turbo blocks have a higher nickel content, which is stronger! The turbo block also has a boss in the side for oil drain back. You are also wrong about the roller cams All the turbo 2.3 motors from 83-88 had roller cams. The ranger never came with a turbo 2.3, The last turbo 2.3 in a mustang was the 86 1/2 SVO. Yes it has forged dished pistons(Stronger then cast or hyper.) And the crank and rods are NOT the same. I know I have rebuilt and built both. And if you run a turbo on a N/A 2.3 you will grenade the motor wether you burn a piston, blow a head gasket or break a rod or rod bolts. Ted

I've had lots of 2.3 turbos , none have roller followers/cam from the factory.... at least not in the rear wheel drive trubo 2.3's... I suppose it is possible that the turbo probe might have a roller cam though... but it is a front wheel drive car and not the same 2.3l engine. -Mark

What year turbo 2.3's have you had? All the Fuel injected 2.3 Turbos from 83-88 had roller cams(Turbo coupes, SVO Mustangs, and Cougar XR7's, also Merkurs Xr4ti's) The 79-82 turbo 2.3L's With Carbs didn't have roller cams.

Grow a brain buddy...none of the 2.3 turbo's had rollers...zero! Go to a boneyard and see for yourself..or visit your ford dealer...look in a repair manual. tedgrot-@...

Wrong...same block design and material, only with tapped boss for turbo. No roller cam, same rods and crank. The turbo block does get forged pistons. People do turbo N/A motors but with the cast pistons must keep boost at a lower level. tedgrot-@...

"Better to keep ones mouth shout and let people think you may be ignorant of the facts, rather than open it and remove any doubt." Ted, you're mostly off-base here - time to go back and do some research... Brad tedgrot-@...

ive had 7 83~88's (4 from mustangs, 1 86-cougar xr7 turbo and 2 T-bird TC's) I still ahve 3 complete heads from them, none have roller anything. I've had 5 turbo 79 pace car mustangs, none of them had roller anything either (as you said). I have pulled many heads from t-bir TC's in teh junk yards.. none have roller anything. I just went into the gargae and checks the 3 head that I have to be sure... all the are "D" chamer heads, all 3 have the usual followers, no rollers.... motorsport used to sell a roller cam and follower kit for teh 2.3's and when I live in Jacksonvuille FL i used to visi racer walsh a lot, they had a roller kit as well but even the guys at racer walsh told me that ford did put the roller stuff on the 2.3 turbos from the factory. maybe its a regional thing or somthing? where are u loc? I got most of my turbo stuff from FL and Colroado.... -MArk
