Just bought a 1999 xlt. It has everything I want except I've found that the 4 cylinder 119 hp (mated to 5-speeed manual) is a bit underpowered for my needs. Q: Is it possible to swap the 4 cyl for a V6 without major surgery? What else could I do to improve performance (e.g. acceleration)? Thanks, Randy

I'm in the same boat. Easy stuff like intake and exhaust will give us a few ponies. . .but everyone knows 20 hp on top of 120 is still not enough. I do remember seeing a page where someone built a home-brew turbo from boneyard parts for his 2.3L Mustang, but most likely your truck isn't some project car and sees daily duty. But its an idea. http://msvorinich.itgo.com/Jan0703.html i believe this is the guy that u are talking about with the "home-brew" turbo 4-cyl. 1st of all thats not the stock motor that motor was pulled from a turbocoupe coupe thunderbird and swapped into the mustang and from what i understand for the most part that is his daily driver but all the parts on it are junkyard parts he has a volvo intercooler, a dodge diesel turbo and a few other misc. items... but that motor was built to abused its nothing like a stock ranger block... if u want to learn more about turbo'ed trucks go to www.rangerpowersports.com/forum and go to the 2.3t page the guys on there are really friendly and can give ya alot of help.
