My wife has a 04 Expedition with the 5.4 that has been making a backfire noise through the exhaust. It makes the noise under slow acceleration and when you let off the accelerator.
She took it to ford and they said the muffler was plugged. This made no sense to me as the engine seems to run fine and dose not load up like the exhaust is plugged. Also it seems that this would cause problems at all engine operating modes. To me it acts like an injector is sticking and allowing fuel into the exhaust. Dose anyone have any similar problems with the 5.4?


The truck has 35K miles
