I had a 1997 Contour GL automatic 2.0L, 76000 miles 2nd owner.
I have vibration when stop and little funny noise.
Last week (2/28/04) I have diagnosis the engine and oil change at the
Ford Center for $89.15. They found something went wrong.
I have two broke motor mounts and two weak mounts. And they prefer
also fix timing belt and water pump, fuel filter, injector sensor,
throttle body cleaning for $2,000.00 including labor and sale tax.
they charge $95.00 per hour for labor.
That is my first opinion to have advising. I decided to go other
mechanical at small auto repair shop nearby for 2nd opinion and they
charge as $1,200 total. their were charge $65.00 per hour.
So I went for 3rd opinion at other placed near to my work for about
$400.00 and not to worry about engine mounts.....wonder why...didn't
they care about my car!!!!!....they charge $65.00 per hour. I'm not
happy about that.
So...I have coworker from where I work and I have know him that he
doing good on company car as well as repair and fix the truck on
brake and oil change. He was certificate mechanical and doesn't need
to run a repair shop. He doing on his back yard and his own tools.
So he found a good bargin parts that compare the half price on sale
from Bennett auto supply.
4 engine mounts from Ford supply center is $360.00.
Parts from Bennett
Water Pump is $54.00
Curved Radiator hose is $50.00
Poly-v Belt is $22.00
Serpentine Belt is $17.00
Gasket for engine top is $21.00
other curver Radiator hose is $13.00
Fuel Filter is $7.50
and sensor asy-engine is $16.00
plus sale tax is about $214.00 total.
He prefer to accept $250 for labor all day for fix it all. And he did
all....So overall that cost is $825.00, That save me about $400.00
from 2nd opinion or $1200.00 from 1st opinion.
No wonder that I have time to look and make a deal on reasonable
price to trust on differ mechanical.
My advise is patience and looking around and make a deal. Please let
me and other need to know about problem and I'm glad to help you guy
that whatever you need to be trust and care about your car. I care
mine and I need to for work and home.
It's cost money and time to spare. Keep in Post.
