I have seen it on several of these rangers; the inside edge of the front tires gets a scalloped-like wear. I am just wondering if any of you all have had this problem too. I have changed shocks, had it aligned, and still the same problem. It is just one of those things that irritates me. I have owned many different types of 4wd's and this is not normal 4wd wear. I would love to know what to do to fix it. Ryan

I could be wrong, but it seems the axle pivot bushings could be going bad. A friend of mine with a 2WD Ranger had to replace his axle pivot bushings, and 10,000 miles later, he has no abnormal tire wear anymore... I had a similar problem on a car a couple years ago, replacing the strut rod bushings fixed the problem. Everything aligned fine, but the worn bushing let the control arm mover around under power... Messed up a couple tires before I figured this out. Roger

I'm trying to think of what an axle pivot bushing is... a control arm bushing, or sway bar end link bushing? Either way, this thing started this at around 25,000 miles. I've tried to check tie rod ends, ball joints, etc. The only thing I have noticed is that when the wheel is turned hard either way, the tire leans out at the top at a noticeable angle. I think the inside edge of the tire is making less contact on the road when turning. It is like the tires are just barely grabbing the inside edge and wearing off whatever does touch the road. I have had no luck going to the Ford stealer for advice, and when I add the wonderful 3.0L spark knock issue to this truck, I know that this will be the first and last ranger I own. We pay too much for something that has design flaws. That's life I guess... haha Ryan

Roger- it is the IFS one. I've even wondered if the torsion bars are sprung or something. I do not know how the previous owner treated it. Ryan

Oh, the IFS isn't what I was talking about... I wouldn't suspect the torsion bars, but morelikely the balljoints, or tierod ends... Roger

I'll recheck the balljoints and tie rod ends, I gotta tell ya that if they wore out at 30,000 miles this will be almost an unethical truck. But hey, I gotta check them anyway I guess. Ryan
