Im still disappointed in my zx3's consumption. I now have 1700 miles on it. I managed 144.3 miles out of 7.3 gal. of gas. This figures out to 19.8 mpg. I realize that running my heater has some effect but this seems a little drastic. And just for the record, this was all city driving and no hot rodding.

Last week I drove the ZX3 from southern Mn to Chicago for the 2003 SVT Cobra reveal. I drove 920 miles, of which about 800 were 70mph to 75mph on interstate, and the rest on 2-lanes and city driving. I averaged 28.93 mpg. I filled 4 times, and the mpg range was 30.1 to 28.3.

I suspect 60mph on the interstate would give close to 35 mpg.

I have noticed a marked improvement with my mileage when on the highway. Hubbie and I just did about 200miles on just over a 1/2 tank averaging 70mph. I'm thrilled! We do notice, however...city driving, especially in the cold, mileage drops to about 230miles on a whole tank.
This car likes highway driving a lot!
I've never put more than just under 11 gallons in the tank when our fuel light is on.

We're now going to hit 4000 miles this month and I'm definitely seeing an improvement with gas mileage.

Hang on there...you will see the improvement...just be patient.

Later!
~Chelly - 2002, Yellow ZX3, Pwr. Prem. group, Pwr moonroof & side impact...all stock except the new teflon wiper blades.

I guess I'm a lucky one...I've had my 2001 5spd ZX3 since Aug of last year and my mileage is consistently between 29 and 36 even while running the air in the hot Arizona heat...I don't drive like an old lady but neither am always heavy on the pedal...I do drive usually an 70/30 mix of highway to city driving...My only mod so far is an Ice-Man Intake.

That sounds about right...you're doing a lot of highway vs. city.

I just did a trip - 220 miles on just over a 1/2 tank. Can't complain there! :)

Later!

With the Focus, it's all about how you drive it. My 2001 is the same way. If I drive it aggressively it drinks gas like a pig in town but most of my drivibg is highway and it usually gets between 29 -36 depending on if I am going 65 or 80mph. usually I drive about 75 so I get 30 or 31 mpg. without looking at the manual I think you only have a little over a 12 gallon tank on this car. My only gripe is that the handling of the car in the snow. the big wheels/tire package behaves as if the car is on a big snow board...quite fun actually until those abs brakes fail to stop the car.

Well - I am not too heavy on the acceleration, and I drive 50/50 freeway and street. So that means if I have about 12 gallons, I am consuming gas relatively quickly. More quickly, as a matter of fact, than the car should. Change the fuel filter?? -Dave
