I was on a road trip and just filled up my car got on to the highway and the needle went to E. and stayed there for about 50 miles. It happened twice. Wondering if anyone had this happen and what the dealership said? They told me that they could not find a problem with it.

I read in the owner's manual that there is a small amount of gas that acts as a "reserve" for when you're driving along and forget to fill up when the tank gets "empty" ... its one of those nifty features about the Focus that makes me love it so much [like the coolant fail-safe feature!]

It's the sending unit in the fuel tank...
Mine had the exact same symptoms, dealer replaced the sending unit and now it works as expected.

-Scott

My ZX3 does the same thing sometimes; I fill it up but it reads empty. The next time I start the car it indicates full.
Karen

It is supposed to do that. It's Fords way of making you turn off your car while you pump gas. It's a safety feature.

Bill
