hi, i have a 2000 contour SE/sport with the 2.5 v6, i had a 1/4 of gas and it dropped to E in a flash. before that happened it was chugging and i couldnt get any speed at all then when it dropped to E my engine shut off. i stopped shut the ignition off and tried starting it and nothing happened it just cranked. tried it a few more times then it finally started but it ran terrible so i shut it off. then i started it one last time and it started up fine, i reved it up and everything and it never cut out i drove it up to 112 and it never cut out at all. then i got home and put 5 gallons of gas in and it went up to half a tank so i figured i had about 2 gallons worth of gas so i wasnt out of gas and i dont know whats going on. and it keeps doing when ever it gets less than half a tank of gas. if any one has ever had this problem please let me know and what it cost to fix it. thanks:) alex

I'll add my two cents once again...when I ran out of gas in my old Mach 1 (351C) I had a hard time getting it started even after I filled the tank. Eventually, by pouring gas into the carb, like you were doing, combined with cranking the engine, the lines will fill back up and should gain their regular flow (from the carb to the fuel pump). This is what worked for me. I would try this before I checked the lines for any problems.

Still isn't running? Has the car been running before? I had to do some body work on my '67. when I put the engine back in, the car wouldn't run. I too put fuel in the carb and it would run, but only for a short while. I figured I had ruined something when I put the engine in so I sent the car to a mechanic. I found out that the transmission was locked up. To this day I can't figure out how I did it but, I locked up the transmission. Anyways about $150 later and a rebuilt C4 I was back on the road. Hope this helps.

Thanks

It has been running before then the Fuel pump went bad so i put a new one in and now its not working still i know nothing is clogged because i took an air commpressor and blew through the lines and took a vacum and sucked gasoline out of the tank through the steel line and i know the Transmission isnt locked cause it will start and move when i put gas in the carb
