Hello everybody Has anyone had their fuel pump changed? I got mine change on thurs. There was a service message for it. Now when I fill my tank, I smell a strong odor of gasoline. As the tank gets lower, the smell goes away. Has anyone experienced this? or have advice? Thanks Byrd

A "service message"? Does this mean all fuel pumps are to be changed on ZX3's and ZX5's? I haven't received a message on my ZX5, but the service manager said he'd changed several out and was going to change mine, but didn't have a way to leave it. So far it's just stumbling a little when accelerating between 30 and 40 mph, but seems to be better after an oil change and lube.

Where was the gas pouring out FROM? Assume the gas cap was on tight so ???? Mine (4-door) was stumbling between 30-40 MPH, but seems to be better after an oil change. Haven't driven it much since then, but maybe they adjusted something while it was in there without telling me. One of the dealers was willing to replace the fuel pump, but wasn't ready to go there. It was pouring from the back, under the car.

i believe the is 2 metal straps bolted on the front end of the tank depending on how much gas is in the tank it take one person to take off the bolts and the other to lower the tank. the fuel pressure must be lowered also...not sure how

If the fuel pump is drawing too high a load, there is either a bad pump, bad relay, bad wiring, or something wrong with the fuse box itself. I would swap the horn and fuel pump relays if they fit and see if the horn fuse burns up. I did this on my Dynasty a few years back when the cooling fan died, put the horn relay in there and then bought a new relay at my convenience. There may be a second fuse somewhere for the fuel pump. My Saturn has four ignition fuses, if one blows, the others will blow as well, or else the car won't run properly or at all. Alan Moore Unemployed And Hating It N. I don't think it's your pump, but it could very well be your filter.

I'm trying to think back to my 93 (I had a conv.) I had to change the filter quite often or it would show signs like what your are suggesting. Usually if the pump goes it gets worse when you get OTG, either that or it just won't run at all.

Back then I didn't do work on the car myself so I'm not even sure where the filter is, probably just outside the tank beside the pump. It's easy to chage at least!

Hope this helps!

?cott

The problem was a bad ACCEL 300+ spark plug wire.

Well bud here's my advice. I'd go for a BBK kit. You can get several versions of them. I'd personally go for a 155 or 190lph fuel pump, intake. I need one myself and that's what i'll be getting here shortly.

They are priced good also...the 190 is $119 i believe. You can check it all out at brothersperformance.com and even order online if you want....if not just call em.

Hope this helps
