Depending on what you have now you can only go 2 steps before you will need to get a chip to change your shift points. Even staying 2 steps from what you have your top speed and shift limiter will be lower. (ie if you have 3.08 now and are going to 3.73 your new top speed will be around 85mph) If you get a chip, this will remove the speed and shift limiters. You will need to get a speedo gear from ford as well or your speedometer will be way off. If you are doing this as a daily driver I would go with 3.55 or 3.73.. 4.10 will give you horrid gas milage. If it's just for the track.. go with 4.10s, speedo gear and chip. You can talk to Dennis Reinhart at http://www.reinhartautomotive.com about the chip and what he recommends for other items you might need with the gears you wish to run. Also, make sure to get a trac-loc pumpkin if you don't already or you'll just be putting your power to the rear passenger tire.

I kinda like the 3.55's. That's what I have under my 3.8 v-6 'bird. It seems to give me pretty good all around punch. The 73's may offer a little more behind that 4.6. Just depends on what you want to do with it. My little six has surprised more than a few 5.0's so far. rrazo_2

I have a GT-S that came with 3:08 gears I switched them for 3:73 gears and noticed some imporvment but not as much as everyone who switches from 2:73 to 3:73s notice. If you aren't concerned with gas mileage and it is just a daily around town driver i would go with the 4:10s see i drive about 2k miles a month and most are highway miles so I did not want too low a gear..   Dale Brown

I have a 92 GT and i'm going with the 3.73's which im getting some time in february. My friend has 3.73's in his t-bird and they make the car feel really different. Another friend of mine has 4.10's in his mustang with a C-4 (no overdrive) and it really sucks to drive it on the highway. I'm going with the 3.73's because its my daily driver, but if your only going to be using your 95 on the weekends go with the 4.10's

5-speed? I think I would go with 3.73s. That seems to be what most people use. With 4.10s you can still go on the h-way, but I think if you do the math, you'll find that leaves the engine reving really high (like 3000 rpm @70mph). I guess its really a matter of how much you drive the car, how fast you go, how long you want the egine to last (if it has to spin more to go the same distance, it will wear out faster), and how much fuel you can afford. Oh yeah, the life of your rear tires will also become an issue with that kind of a gear swap. good luch lyman >

Most people stay with the 3:73 for the 5 speed. If you do a lot of highway driving then I would not suggest the 4:11.   Dale

As most of the listers have responded, 3.73's are a good choice. I went with the 3.55's and have been very happy with them.  allows good grunt off the line and not sacrifice much in the way of mileage.  Also the 3.55's work really good during cone chasing for me.    Craig-   94 GT

Craig,  What year stang do you have?  Did ford change 1st. gear ratio in the 99-00?
My 2000 will only gain 200 rpm w/3.55's And it really does not seem to need them!
AT least until 3rd.gear,and that is where horse power comes in.         John

John my stang is a 94 gt with T-5 I'm not sure about 1st gear ratio for 99-00. My car came stock with 2.73's as I recall or maybe it was 3.17's hell I don't remember for sure its been a while but I was pretty sure at the time it was 2.73's. As I recall it struck my funny that my car had such a gear set.  Any way the 3.55's were a great compromise from the 3.73's  atleast for me they have worked out fine. My road dog has a 95 GT convert just like mine more or less the same set up except he has 3.73's to my 3.55's and down the 1320 I'm faster than his car.     Craig-

3:73s are the best bang for you buck all around. I would not suggest higher (3.55s and down) for your AODE if anything go lower (4.10s).. Dale

FWIW, I have a brand new set of 3.73 gears by Motive Gear.  I paid $189 for the gears and $81 for the install kit (Federal Mogul I think).  I took my '95 GT all apart to find that it already had them.  :)  :(   I would take $250 plus shipping for them and the install kit.  All the prices you see advertised are without install kit...I found out sadly, then you have to spend another $80+ for the install.   I think the 'package' in the FRPP catalog is like $399.   Rad...
