I've gotten them at WallMart. I think type and brand have the most to do with it. Regular is cheapest, halogen next, and after that the newer 'blue' type. J.C.Whitney sometimes has prices, but I found on more than one occassion the delivery is VERY slow. By the way, does your Contour have an engine block heater in it? See my posting. Good luck.

I will need more information to help with the headlights. The heat issue....is the car heating up at all or it is taking longer than you think it should?

I have been battling with my dull headlights for two years now. I have found the only thing that brightens them up temporarily is rubbing alcohol.<br>I have tried other things, but that seems to be the only thing I have found that works. Good luck!

plastic polish, bug and tar remover, liquid polishing compound even ordinary car wax will work. this needs to be done every so often. if you have never done this, the first time will require some elbow grease and extra applications.hope this helps

two of those screws (the ones in the front) are for the adjusting of the headlights, dont touch those (unless u want to spend time readjusting them). the ones on the outside, take those out, pull off the black housing around them, once that is done, the lights are to be pulled out. u gotta kind of fidget around with them, but they'll come out. good luck

actually, i was going to devise a way to do that .. i love the sleepy eye look, but hell .. it sucks driving at night without them adjusted to the road. if anyone has any little secrets that aren't so obvious, would ya let me know how to get the bulbs to hit the road WITH the sleepy eye effect? cause i have my headlights adjusted as high as they will go relative to the housing, and they shine maybe a few feet in front of the car hehehe. thanks for any tips/advice. abe 93 pse

How do you get the sleepy eyes to work so that the headlights come on? Don't you have to keep the RETRA fuse out, or else the headlights re-adjust themselves? When the fuse is out, you can't turn on the lights. Thanks for any feedback. --Jon Jackinchuk, BMA University of Michigan, Ann Arbor 2000

1. If both headlights are dimming, it could be a fuse. 2. Could be the glass on headlights are dirty so clean them! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Ray

Branson I adjusted the headlights on my 99 XLT and it was very easy. There is a plastic cover that you pop open on top of the headlight assembly, which then gives you access to a bolt head that you can get a socket onto. I imagine this has a thread on it that alters the up/down angle of the lights. Once I had found the bolt head, it was a 1 minute job to alter the lights. Not sure if this is the way to do it on a 93 model. Hope it helps. John

While we're on the subject of headlights... has anyone had the glass on the front of the headlight go all cloudy? It almost looks like the front of the glass has been sanded to dull the finish. Both of mine on my '94 seem like they're really dull when you look at them in the daylight, but they operate just fine at night. Has anyone changed out the glass?

I have a 1993 and do not have that problem. But, just a a warning that glass is not cheap. I think it was abour $80 for a aftermarket one (Had mine replaced when my wife had a fender bender), and that was about 4 or 5 years ago. -sd

Yes it will work to an extent, but there is polish made specifically for this and the polish also removes some of the yellowing. http://www.properautocare.com/polplasheadl.html   CR

Not to play the skeptic, but at $8.50 per ounce, I think my results look as good as theirs for a fraction the price.  And I've no way to quantify their claims other than the before & after look.

If its yellowing due to age I think you can buff them out using a plastic polish.

I heard they can be bleached out, but I don't know what ratio of bleach to water... I'd start "light" on the bleach > >

blue vision bulbs are white in the color spectrum, though no brighter. Extra vision throw the beam further down the road, though yellow in coloration. Presently I'm staying with the extra vision. Both of the above bulbs are Phillips. I even tried increasing the wattage but got nervous about melting the reflectors.
