Lady with a question -- My DH & I have a '93 Aerostar (neither one of us are mechanically inclined) anyways the heater doesn't seem to work properly. It will get warm but nowher near warm enough. It takes forever for it to even get to warm. We will almost be to our destination (15 - 20 minute drive) before it even gets remotely warm.  Anyways, I wanted some opinions before taking it to be looked at. What do you think -- does it sound more like the thermostat or the heater core needs to be replaced?

Thanks,

Vicky

I had a similar problem with my 88 Aerostar, it turned out to be a pencil that had fallen trough the vents on the dash and it to the heater/AC box. The pencil will hold the flapper door in the heater/AC box from closing completely. A symptom of this is a hard to move temperature lever on the vans dash heat/AC controls.   You may be correct also on the thermostat, it may be broken or missing all together. The heater core is not at fault unless it is clogged, flushing it will correct the problem. Also you may want to have some one take a look at the heater hoses they could be pinched and limiting the amount of fluid/coolant going to the heater core.     Jaime
