hello probers!      got a problem lately. if i cold start my 93 base probe and drive it, everything is okay. but if i turn it off after driving about 30 minutes and start it again less than 5 mins later, it would display an rpm of 1500 and would never go down. it would even have the tendency of going up much higher (2000 or sometimes 2500) if i turn it off and start it again in less than 5 minutes. im gonna bring her to a mech but i wanna be armed with some kind of background info from you guys first so i wont be staring blankly at the mechanics' face while he babbles about what might be wrong with it and what he is planning to do with it.      i have a very high regard for your inputs since all your suggestions about my previous inquiries are right on target. so please help me on this one. i might do the job myself if its not too complicated. THANKS .                                                 PROBEP7

Sounds like a bad throttle body control, etc., etc., but I can't be sure. I've never had that problem.

By the way, did everyone get squared away with the hesitation between gears and the whole defective Ford intake hoses? Bottom line - check your factory intake hoses, especially on the older Probes. They were prone to cracking and Ford recalled some of them.

you can hit any rpm between one and redline and be safe as long as there is oil all throughout the engine...so after startup, you may want to wait a few seconds longer than the ONE you wait now to ensure theres oil throughout...otherwise you can damage cams, bearings, etc...no fun.
have a good one.

I thought i read somewhere that it isn't a good for the engine to be reved too high (i guess over 3.5) before the engine is warmed up.

only because there isnt always oil there...hence the few seconds to let it run through the motor...but...if you want to get down and dirty, drag racers run their motors as cold as possible and they get them runnin hard as hell the whole way to redline and 9 times out of 10 no problems...  ;-)

True. However, I never run it past 2.5 untill the temp. is normal...no harm in it right.
