Drives: 04 escape

Is there some trick to getting the wheel off of a 2004 escape?My brakes are pretty bad....I jacked the escape up and took off all the lugs but i cant seem to get the rim and tire off.I noticed a really big nut in the middle of the rim, does this need to come off aswell or is my rim just stuck?
