There is a rule to follow to figure out how wide you should go on a
wheel/tire combination. The width of the rim shouldn't be less than 70%
the width of the tire. The stock wheels are 15 inch (tri spoke) wheels
are 6 inches wide, and the tires on them are 205mm wide (Firehawks).
You have to convert inches to millimeters so 6in*25.4mm=152.4mm.
152.4/205= 74%. The safe limit is 70% so this is ok. 215 would put you
right at the limit, so I wouldn't go wider than that. 225 you put you at
67%, the tire might be pinched in too much at the bead and not seat
properly. If you want to see where I got this from, check out:

I hope that helps you out.
P.S. Dunlop W10's are available in 205/55/15 and Ive heard good things
about them, BFGoodrich Radial T/A are too but they didn't grip as well
as Id would have liked on my old car. Those are $68 and $71 respectively
from the Tire Rack. If you want to go for a bit higher performance,
Dunlop SP 8000 and 9000 are available in that size too, but cost a
little more at $78 and $127 a tire.
