Okie so it seems I'm not the only one wondering how wide we can go on the stock rims. It would also be nice if someone could reccomend some tires to go with but keep in mind I want the widest possible. About two days agao some one was saying that they had put a 40 Series Flow master on their car. I got some questions for you like price for one. How much did you pay for the muffler and how much to get it put on and all that basically all the details. And one more thing. Can anyone tell me for a fact that a cool air intake is that much bettter than just a regualr intake like a weapon-r(what I'm thinking about going with) anyones input on the intake and the exhaust would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jer 1996 PSE > can i put a 215/50 on the gt rims that come with the 225/50. i know the > speedo would be a little off. > but would that fit? the bfgoodrich comp t/a's are $70 a peice, which is > nicer than the 225/50's that i paid $130 for > > scott > 93 se > >

Hey man.....tires are way too expensive....i feel for ya...specially for the kind you want. If you're ever wondering what tires will fit, just ask at your tire place....they SHOULD be able to tell you. I have 205's on my probe...but a few of the fellas have 195's, which is too skinny for me..hehe, but they'll go on.... Carolyn 96 SE >

I have 225/50/16's on my 1994 GT V6 I'm useing the old Dunlop D40 M2 tire. It's an older design but it works great in wet or dry. Also, since they're an older design they are usually cheaper & quite often on sale. Try not to get "hooked" in to buying the latest {and most expensive} tire out there. Trust me, I'm 38 years old & been buying tires for my performance cars for long time now. The latest & greatest are fine if you've got all sorts of cash. But if you're on a budget try these tires. I think all you guys will like them just fine. They're soft & sticky & handle real predictably. I've had a set on my Probe since 1997 & they're still in pretty good shape. That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck Probers.................Craig 94GT V6

A stock SE has what... 205/55/15's normally? So that's 23.88 inches diameter. 215/50/16's are 24.46 inches, so be careful of rubbing the wheel well if you have worn out suspension. I'm not too familiar with SE/GT differences, but the small width change probably isn't going to do much of anything as far as rubbing against any suspension components. -Chris Remshaw >

There is a rule to follow to figure out how wide you should go on a wheel/tire combination. The width of the rim shouldn't be less than 70% the width of the tire. The stock wheels are 15 inch (tri spoke) wheels are 6 inches wide, and the tires on them are 205mm wide (Firehawks). You have to convert inches to millimeters so 6in*25.4mm=152.4mm. 152.4/205= 74%. The safe limit is 70% so this is ok. 215 would put you right at the limit, so I wouldn't go wider than that. 225 you put you at 67%, the tire might be pinched in too much at the bead and not seat properly. If you want to see where I got this from, check out: http://www.voicenet.com/~coughlin/dsm/twheel.htm I hope that helps you out. P.S. Dunlop W10's are available in 205/55/15 and Ive heard good things about them, BFGoodrich Radial T/A are too but they didn't grip as well as Id would have liked on my old car. Those are $68 and $71 respectively from the Tire Rack. If you want to go for a bit higher performance, Dunlop SP 8000 and 9000 are available in that size too, but cost a little more at $78 and $127 a tire. Hey Jey I have the akimoto Funnel Ram III its awesome. You can get it in a coupe different colors. Its a alittle pain in the butt with the instalation. But you can feel the difference once you get it on, and it gives the car a good throatly tone not to strong but it sounds good. Jose G
