I have a 96 T-Bird LX V-8 and a 80 Mustang with an inline six auto. I live in the great North West On topic I removed the after market stereo from my T-Bird and am triing to install a cassette system that matches up with the one shown in the owners manual. It is the base cassette, next to my radio area it is printed "premium sound" I dont know if that is my issue. My problem is that the power or left side plugs right in but the speaker harness from the car is a square 8 pin instead of the rectangular 8 pin on the radio. I had the adapter from the after market radio so I just put connectors to it and pluged it into the harmess and adapted it over to the back of the radio. I don't have any idea of which pins power which speaker but being there are 8 speaker wires and 8 plugs I figured it wouldn't be that hard to determine which speaker wire goes to which pin. The radio turns on and seeks and shows all buttons to funtion fine but I have no sound! Is there an anti theft code are some other strange item that I am not aware of?

I have the V8 with the same sound system.. well kinda.
Mine is a 92.

The radio just quit working in it actualy and Im looking into replacing it.

Iv done some research and not found anything about anti theft or anything.

If I were you, I would recheck the wireing harness and look up the approriate wire diagram for the vehicle.

(now i read this, i guess I should go remove the old radio otherwise it will never happen... LOL)

**** Update.

Well, I did it.
Pulled the old radio.
Installed the new one with the correct wireing harness....
No sound.
Power, antena and everything.. But no sound to the speekers.
(im getting output from the sterio, i tested it)

As soon as I find anything, Ill post it here...

Uh. What a fool I am.

The solution is in the name..

The "Preminum" sound system.
Means theres an amplifier in the system.

If you hook your sterio up and all is well... but you get no sound from your speekers...
The incar amp hasent turned on.

Solution is simple.

Your new wire harnes has a White and Blue wire on it. Should be labled "Amp - Turn - On" or something like that.
If the stereo has no simiar output on it. You can simply splice that white / blue wire onto the Red wire labled "ignition, accessory".
When you turn on the car, the amp will turn on and Bingo! Sound!!.

Weeeee!!
Simple huh?
