Ihave a '94 max wagon w/130k miles. Recently it wouldn't start after a half hour trip. Ignition lights all worked but nothing from the starter. After awhile of smashing the starter with a hammer, thinking it wa a stuck solenoid (a favorite way to fix my old chevy),I played with the wires on the little black module next to the battery. After I moved the small red wire that slips on and off a threaded connector a few times, it started and I got home. It happened again this week when I got home, after several around town stops (it was fully warmmed up). After I couldn't get it started by moving the wire, I thought it might be a problem that happens when its hot, but no such luck. It wasa still dead after it cooled down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated? Frank

There are a couple of possiblities.  You could have a bad starter/solenoid, a defective ignition switch, battery going bad, bad connection/corrosion problem at the battery or the starter.  These are the most likely source of your problem.

An update to my dead starter problem. It was the solenoid. I tested it by checking for power at the red wire with the key in the start position. It had power, so i took a wire and jumped it from the large terminal at the solenoid that gets power straight from the battery, to the other small terminal, which sends power to the starter when the solenoid normally engages. The motor started right up. So $11 and 10 minutes later she's as good as new. Thanks for the help.
