I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 96 EXPLORER. THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT OFF OF BOUGHT IT WHEN IT WAS 3 YEARS OLD. THEY SAID THAT THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE THEM THE CODE.IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND OUT THIS CODE. MAYBE AT THE DEALER WITH YOUR VIN# OR CAN SOMEBODY FIND IT OUT IN THE COMPUTER OF THE VEHICLE.

Yes, you need the owner's manual more than anything else. It details the process of setting the door code. Programming the code for the keys is different. You HAVE to have 2 keys or your screwed. If you don't have the book, you might want to get one. If you need the sequence of events, ask and well tell you how it goes.   CR

Dont know about getting the original factory code, but the manual has a procedure to create your own code. I couldn't tell you what the factory code is on either of my Fords without looking it up. But the wife and I created our own code that we put into both the Explorer and her Windstar. That way we only need to remember the one code and can get in both vehicles. > >

the manual does not solve his problem, I have a '96 and in the manual, and I quote   "To program your own code: 1.select 5 digits for your personal code 2.enter the permanent code the dealership gave you   the permanent code is in two places, the owner's wallet card and taped to the computer module.
