seems like the lightning 90mm MAF and a customchip, are a great combo for the T-Bird. what hardware do i need to install these parts? a wire harness? any adapters? how do I "burn" the chip to the MAF? does the customchip have the transfer function for the L-MAF, or do i have to program it? What i really need is step by step instructions and a list of hardware/tools for this job. i want to install them as a combo.

You will need a wiring harness if you don't have a '97. You'll also need adapters on either side of the maf sensor since it is a different size. The easiest thing to do would be to buy a lightning air filter from the dealership when you get the maf sensor. To connect the maf to the intake hose, you'll need to make an adapter, but you should be able to do that for under $10 with parts from a hardware store.

When you order the chip, just tell them that you have a 90mm lightning maf and that you need its transfer function added to the chip. Customchips will do that for you.

The chip isn't fun to install, but Customchips should send you detailed instructions with it describing how to put it in.

If you want to get some other opinions or just look up other information, go to www.tccoa.com , the Thunderbird and Cougar Club of America. There are lots of people there that make me look like a beginner. There are also technical articles on installing the maf and chip, and on how to do all kinds of other mods and repairs. Also, if you join, you get substantial discounts from lots of vendors. If you plan on buying performance parts, the membership fee pays for itself really fast.

Hope this helps,

Kenny
