My '66 has a big problem. After driving it for 10 or 15 mins. it slowly loses power and shuts off. My rpms waiver, and after a few seconds it just dies with no peculiar noises. After letting it sit for 5 or 10 mins, it runs great for another 10 or 15 mins, before dying again. After replacing the thermostat, cleaning out both gas tanks, and giving it an overall check, this has even stumped my mechanic. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks,
stephenlassiter1

Have you tried the carb? I was having a similar problem w/ a Lincoln Continental, believe it or not. A suggestion.

try spraying starting fluid around the intake manifold and on the base of the carb you may have a intake leak. or you may have something in the carb that is clogging one of the main jets. mine was doing the same thing but would cut out and die after hitting 3000 rpms.

oh forgot the point of the "starting fluid" if the rpm raise or fall after you spray it down then there is a leak.

Two things come to mind, 1. VAPOR LOCK and 2. Some kind of electrical part failure. Both will cause your vehicle to die then start back up after it has cooled. Then die again when it gets hot. Do the '66 Broncos have the square electrical module under the hood (Aluminum case with "Motorcraft" on it)? I would try replacing that if it does.

When I bought my 67 it had an electronic ignition.
I dont know what brand, but when it got warm it would die with no warning. About 10 or 15 minutes later I could start it back up and it would run untill it got warm again. I tore it out and put the points and condenser back in. Ran fine after that.
